Who are the ‘dugouts’

How would you feel about living in a real Mad Max world?  Well there is such a place in the harsh Australian terrain called Coober Pedy. The town of 1.600 inhabitants is located in the northern part of South Australia and the opal capital of the world. Coober Pedy, which means ‘white man’s hole’ in the Aboriginal language, is renowned for its underground residences. The town was built under the earth’s surface due to the scorching daytime heat, which can reach up to 50 degrees Celsius, to host the settlers looking to make their fortune in the mining in. The ‘dugouts’, as its inhabitants are known can go to their church, knock down a couple of beers at their bar, or choose to sleep at their hotel.
