Loophole in new offshore companies provision opens way for ministers’ amnesty

It provides a 60-day deadline for politicians to transfer any shares they own

The new amendment on the scandalous offshore companies provision, revealed by Proto Thema newspaper, which provided that politicians were allowed to own offshore companies, passed in parliament with 190 votes in favour  on Wednesday.

The new provision prohibits any form of ownership or participation of Greek politicians in firms based abroad.

However, the final form of the new regulation provides a 60-day deadline for politicians to transfer any shares they legally own, giving them also the opportunity to get rid of any illegal shares they might have without being subject to any criminal liability.
