Mafia style execution in the centre of Athens

Police have launched a manhunt

A fatal shooting took place at approximately 04: 00 in the morning of Friday at a cafe located near Vathis square at the centre of Athens, leaving one man dead and one woman injured.

According to information released by the police, a jeep with tinted windows and two passengers stopped in front of the cafe – owned by an Albanian national – and the men in the car opened fire at the seven patrons in the cafe, probably with Kalashnikovs.

The mafia-style execution caused the death of one man, a Greek national, who at the time was standing near the door of the cafe. A woman standing next to him was also injured and she is currently being treated at the General State Hospital of Nikaia, out of danger.

The modus operandi of the crime has led the police to believe that this was a “payback crime.” However, the target of the attack has not been determined yet.
