According to the latest reports, a blaze that broke out early on Friday morning at a café in Monastiraki district was placed under control.
The cafe is located in a small alley, at the corner of Agios Filippos and Ifestou streets, which made access difficult for fire trucks.
A score of firefighters arrived at the spot and the buildings around the cafe were evacuated.
Monastiraki is a “touristy” commercial district in central Athens, just north of the Acropolis that hosts traditional flea market and is adjacent to the Plaka old quarter.
