Mayor of Lesvos sends letter of despair to Immigration Minister over refugee crisis

The island has been overwhelmed with asylum seekers

The Mayor of Lesvos, Spyros Galinos, sent a letter to the Minister of Immigration, Dimitris Vitsas, highlighting the gravity of the refugee problem for the island. In the letter, Mr. Galinos points out the urgency of the issue and the need to “decongest” the island, as asylum seekers have reached over 10,000.

“The concern and fear of the inhabitants are further compounded by several crooks, who are spreading rumours on a daily basis about new centres, which the ministry has to immediately dispel”, the mayor said.
“The growing delinquency has exhausted the patience of the local community, which is already at its limits,” he stresses.
