MEPs check on situation of migrants in Greece (video)

Borders closed two months ago blocking the refugees’ journey to the north of the European continent

A delegation of Civil Liberties Committee MEPs visited the Idomeni refugee camp in northern Greece on the borders with FYROM, to evaluate the situation of migrants and the implementation of the EU-Turkey deal. Led by Hungarian MEP Peter Niedermuller of the Progressive Alliance and Social Democrats party of the European Parliament, the politicians inspected the camp and assessed the living conditions of the refugees and migrants.

The Idomeni camp hosts nearly 10,000 people who have refused to be relocated to organised hotspots set up by the Greek government in other areas of mainland Greece, hoping that the closed borders between Greece and FYROM will eventually open allowing them to continue their journey to northern Europe. Nearly 4 thousand children are among the refugees and migrants stuck at the camp.
