Mitsotakis promises his party will support businesses in Greece

Opposition party leader says government should create safe investment environment

The President of conservative party New Democracy, Kyriakos Mitsotakis presented his plans to support the creation of new jobs and Greek businesses during his speech at the Hellenic Federation of Enterprises (SEV), Tuesday. ‘The absolute priority of a New Democracy government will be new jobs’, underlined Mitsotakis.

Expressing his conviction that a ‘new agreement of truth’ had to include both the citizens and the business community in order to achieve growth, Mitsotakis added that without private investment there could be no economic development. Mitsotakis criticised those who considered the private sector and businesses as part of the problem and not the solution, underlining that growth could only come through the business community that would be willing to invest in the economy.

The leader of Greece’s major opposition party admitted that the people’s suspicion towards big business was not totally unfounded, as he stressed that in the past business interests were closely entangled with political power, a situation that undermined the country’s productive capacity. Mitsotakis said the politicians’ responsibility was to create a safe environment for businesses to flourish with low taxation and zero red tape.
