More sex means bigger penis, study reveals

The test was conducted using two sets of beetle

Having more sex might give you a bigger penis, at least in beetles, says a new study conducted by the University of Exeter.

The study published in the Evolution journal showed that the more sex the beetles had, the bigger the male’s genitals became.

Female beetles also experienced changes, since they developed larger ‘claw-like’ growths on their genitals.

The changes occurred because as one sex’s genitals change the other’s change with it.

One of the study’s author, Dr Megan Head, said: “It takes two to tango, so when changes in shape in one sex leads to corresponding changes in the other sex this is known as co-evolution.”

The test was conducted using two sets of beetle, with one having a lot of sex, and the other having minimal amounts of sex. The study was conducted over ten generations and showed that the more sex the animals were having the bigger their genitals became.
