A video of a Greek-American mother exploding with joy upon hearing that Nia Vardalos is directing a sequel to “My Big Fat Greek Wedding” went viral. It even showed up on the site of Time magazine.
The footage was uploaded by her son, Angelo, who had a conversation with his mum while she was packing away some galaktoboureko. The mother said “all other movies can go to hell” when hearing the news. “If I didn’t have to go to my second job I would dance the belly dance,” she said.
Told that critics believe that the sequel won’t live up to the original, she said “To hell what people say!”
Definitely a Nia Vardalos fan, she said that she saw the move five times. She said that the sequel gives her something to look forward to. It was, in her view, the best news she had heard in the last ten years.
At the end, she said, “This is where life began. With the Greeks. Life began with the Greeks.”
