MSC Sinfonia gets warm welcome at Piraeus

OLP reserved a warm welcome for its first cruise arrival

The MSC Sinfonia was the first cruise ship to dock at the Port of Piraeus in 2014. The Piraeus Port Authority (OLP) President George ANomeritis said on Saturday that the current year  would be very good for the cruise industry as investments worth 136 million euros, funded 95% by the EU, will be initiated. Mr. Anomeritis also said that Greek cruise has seen its arrivals and departures jump from 600,000 in 2004 to 2 million per annum. He also said that OLP aims to establish Piraeus as a world center of culture and peace by 2021, the year that makrs 2,500 years from the legendary Battle of Salamina.

MSC Sinfonia President Pietro Scarpato accepted the harbor’s crest and books for himself and the ship’s library. The ship’s 1,857 passengers and 675 crew members, made up of 42 nationalities, enjoyed Christmas desserts and drinks.
