Mykonos wakes up to half-sunk yacht off beach (watch vid)

‘Aloha’ proves unlucky for passengers

Tourists and locals on the “A-list” island of Mykonos woke up to an unprecedented site on Thursday, as a half-sunk luxury yacht extended from the waters midway between the two best-known beaches on the isle.

The “Aloha” sunk for as yet unknown reasons, with all four people onboard safely fleeing the vessel in another speedboat. One probable cause is that it ran aground overnight due to poor maneuvering by its skipper.

Authorities believe the yacht belongs to a Turkish businessman.

Coast guard vessels are on standby to prevent any pollution from the half-sunk vessel, such as fuel, oils etc. The incident occurred between the beaches of Psarou and Platy Gialos.
