An interesting illustration has been sneaked into the Greek school textbook teaching science. Fifth graders studying mixtures also get to see an image of a blender with tangled, mangled naked bodies on page 19. The book in question has been taught in Greek elementary schools for almost ten years since its first edition in 2005-2006 without anybody noticing the nude, mainly female bodies, mixed together in a blender.
The Ministry of Education told Proto Thema that the image in question was due to the authors’ oversight and the image would be removed from the digital display of its book on Friday.
The work in question is by Japanese Makoto Aida whose art explores the dynamics of the Japanese psyche incorporating young girls, businessmen, war and politics. Aida’s art includes manga-style painting and many of his works are so painstakingly detailed that they take years to complete.
The work found in the 5th grade textbook, titled “Blender”, was created in 2001 and is an Acrylic on canvas (290×210.3 cm) found in the Takahashi collection in Tokyo.
