ND leader Mitsotakis: The way govt handled refugee crisis made things worse

The government must honor its commitments for the construction of the hot spots, he said

Main opposition New Democracy leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis on Monday visited the refugee reception centre in Mytilene and accused the government that the way they handled the problem made things worse adding that “the hotspots alone will not resolve the problem”.

“It is absolutely clear that the government must honor its commitments for the construction of the hot spots at the five islands of the Aegean,” he said, stressing that it is also clear that the construction of the hotspots, by itself, will not solve the problem.

The leader of the main opposition congratulated the staff of the Greek Police, the Frontex, the NGOs, the international organizations and government services for the super-human effort made to face an extremely acute problem.

Mr. Mitsotakis called on Turkey to honour its own commitments, stressing that “the problem cannot be solved unless there is substantial involvement from the Turkish side.”
