ND Parliamentary group submit question in parliament over offshore scandal amendment

They ask government if it is morally acceptable for state figures to engage in tax avoidance

The parliamentary group of Greece’s major opposition party, New Democracy, have decided to submit a formal question in parliament regarding the inclusion by the Greek government of the scandalous amendment, article 178, in the recently voted omnibus bill.

The matter came to light after ‘Proto Thema’ revealed an amendment had been included in the omnibus bill which allowed political figures to hold offshore companies in countries around the world that were considered ‘tax havens’.

In their question, New Democracy deputies ask what purpose the inclusion of such an amendment served, especially as it was added urgently, while they request to know if the government considers tax avoidance by politicians morally permissible and therefore should also be legally allowed.
