New poll gives 8.5% lead to SYRIZA over ND

The poll was nationwide and conducted from October 13 to 20.

According to the results of a new poll that were published on Saturday by “Efimerida ton Syntakton” newspaper, main opposition Radical Left Coalition (SYRIZA) party has a 8.5% lead over senior ruling coalition party New Democracy (ND).

Regarding intention of vote, with calculations based only on valid votes (invalid/”don’t know” choices were excluded), SYRIZA got 35.5% (from 36% in September) and ND 27% (from 25%), followed by To Potami with 10.5% (from 9.5%), Communist Party of Greece/KKE with 6.5% (from 6.5%), PASOK with 6% (from 5.5%), extreme-right Golden Dawn with 6% (from 7.5%), Independent Greeks with 3% (from 4%) and Democratic Left with 1% (from 1%).

Asked who of two party leaders would make a better prime minister, the current PM and ND leader Antonis Samaras or SYRIZA’s Alexis Tsipras, 41% of the respondents chose Samaras (from 38% in September) and 30% chose Tsipras (34%). A total of 30% said “neither of the two” (28% in September).
