New Zealand: Woman who suspects housemate of stealing catches him scratching his genitals with her toothbrush instead (video)

On camera!

One New Zealand woman discovered the hard way why shacking up with strangers is not always the most advisable of arrangements, even if it does help save on rent.

Sarah, the woman in question, described to local reporters how she happened to catch her unconscionable roommate rubbing his genitals with her toothbrush after she became suspicious that someone was going into her room while she was away.

The 28-year-old said her horrifying experience started soon after she and her boyfriend found another couple who wanted to house-share on a website called “Trade Me.”

After a few months of house-sharing, she began noticing that her things were moving around, which led her to suspect her female housemate was going into her makeup and other personal belongings. “When you find your flatmate’s blonde hair in your knicker drawer… you’ve got to ask yourself questions,” she said.

But after the female housemate firmly denied any wrong-doing, she and her boyfriend started doing things like putting a shoe behind their door so that they would know someone had come in if the shoe was out of place.  And sure enough, the shoe was always found moved from its spot.  This happened every day until the couple, determined to catch the makeup thief, bought a webcam and set it up in the corner.

At first, the camera caught exactly what Sarah had expected to see: footage of her roommate coming into her room to use her things without permission.

But what it caught next truly freaked her out: her male flatmate entering her bedroom, going into her bathroom, and dropping his trousers, with the door half ajar.  After standing still in front of her toilet for around 20 seconds without moving, his arm reached out to grab a toothbrush from the ledge above the sink and moved it over towards his crotch, out of shot, before replacing it moments later and walking out.

Recounting the story, Sarah said: “I initially didn’t believe my boyfriend when he called me and told me … why would someone do that? We hadn’t done anything wrong…I cried!”

Upon confronting the man about his misdeed on camera, she said he admitted to having a “toothbrush obsession,” before going bright red.

Sarah added: “I said we had a video of the whole thing and we knew his girlfriend was using our stuff, too.  I said we were going to the police, moving out, and telling the landlord.”

While she said that she and her boyfriend moved out the very next day, she did not specify whether they would be pressing charges against the other couple.

But she did make sure to buy new toothbrushes.
