Operation Ben Needham: Five leads being investigated

Kerry Needham is heartened by the new information that has come to light following the Greek TV show, “Light at the End of the Tunnel”

Ben Needham, who went missing while on holiday on the isle of Kos on July 24, 1991, would be 25 today. Over the years, his mother Kerry Needham has not stopped searching for the son that vanished after she left him in his grandparents’ care while she went to work at a local hotel. Previous leads have failed to come up with solid information but Ben’s family still keeps hoping.

On Friday night, Ben’s mother, grandmother and sister Leighanna participated in a three-and-a-half hour show appealing for new information on Ben. A man who called up the top-rating missing person’s show “Light at the End of the Tunnel” stating he could be Ben, after the appeal was made, turned out to be an imposter who had previously being ruled out.

Despite the fact that the man was ruled out as her son, there are other leads that hearten the missing person’s family, especially the mother that has not stopped believing that her son is alive. She said: “A Greek TV show (on Friday) had a massive impact on Ben’s investigation, and new information was given to South Yorkshire Police on the show and also to Operation Ben headquarters in the UK. This information will now be investigated by British Detectives.”

The police managed to gather a number of other leads over the last 24 hours that they will begin to properly investigate over summer. Espresso newspaper writes that the Greek and British police are focusing on five interesting lines of inquiry in particular, two in Imathia prefecture, one in the central Greece city of Larisa, another in Thessaloniki and yet another possible sighting in Marmaris, Turkey, on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the Telegraph notes that investigation and hopes of a breakthrough slipped as police fear that the new image of Ben Needham is not actually him.
