Penelope Cruz wishes for peace in the Gaza Strip

In two consecutive communiqués

After an open letter sent to the Spanish press and cosigned by Javier Bardem, director Pedro Almodovar and other Spanish artists, Penelope Cruz publicized a “softer” announcement in USA Today newspaper. In the first letter, Cruz, along with her husband and the director, other actors, writers and musicians, repudiated the Israeli assault on Gaza, calling on the EU to “condemn the bombings against Palestinian civilians in the Gaza Strip”.

Today, the Spanish celebrity and Oscar-winner wrote: “I do not want to be misunderstood on such an important issue. I am not fully aware of the situation or its political complexity. The only desire and intention that made me sign this letter was for Israel and Gaza to be at peace. I hope everyone wishes for the ceasefire to prevent any more innocent victims on both sides. I wish for peace and unity. I believe in a culture that has the power to make people live side by side”.

Her husband, Oscar-winner Javier Bardem also sent a communiqué to Spanish newspaper El Dario, stating: “I cannot fathom this barbarism, and it becomes even more puzzling when you considered the atrocities suffered by Jewish people in the past.
