Picasso painting stolen in 2001, found

In New York

A Picasso painting stolen from the Georges Pompidou center in Paris in 2001 was discovered in the United States, where it was sent as… a Christmas gift, according to New York’s judicial authorities.

The painting is valued at many a million dollars, according to the Brooklyn D.A. It is estimated at 30 million euros.

This small oil canvas, sized at 33×46 cm, and bearing the title of “La Coiffeuse” was reported stolen in 2001.

It arrived in the US from Belgium on the 17th of December. Authorities scanning it had thought it was a cheap imitation, as it was addressed to “Robert” with “Merry Christmas” well-wishing.
