Piraeus port in 8th spot in Europe in container handling

Massive 167% rise in last 10 years

The port of Piraeus has recorded impressive leap in competitiveness, gaining the 8th spit among the top 20 European ports. The port registered a rapid growth over the past 10 years regarding container handling over the past 10 years, according to data released by a study conducted by port economics.eu. The figures show that between 2007 and 2016 the port had a whopping 167.7% rise in container handling, with the increase between 2015 and 2016 being 9.45%. Currently the port of Piraeus handles 3,675,000 containers annually. SEP-Cosco has set a target to complete works in the western part of the port docks in order to expand container handling by 7 million. The top 15 European ports had an average fall of 1.6% in container handling in 2015 and a 2.1% rise in 2016.
