Pistorius’ sentence will be reexamined

By the South African Supreme Court

A South African judge made a decision, allowing the final appeal of the prosecutor that provides for a five-year prison sentence for Oscar Pistorius.

This development means that the case will be sent to the Supreme Court, which opens the way for the imposition of a higher penalty to the renowned athlete.

“I cannot say that the prospect of success in the Supreme Court is unlikely”, stated the judge.

Prosecutor Jerry Nell had appealed the court’s decision, which allows Pistorius to request his sentence to be turned to house arrest after just ten months.

Nell called the sentence “shockingly inappropriate” and said that the sentence should be revised, adding that it shows “excessive indulgence” against the accused.
