PM A. Tsipras at wreath-laying ceremony (video)

The Greek delegation insists that it is not in Russia with cap in hand

Government sources in Russia responded to EU Parliament President Martin Schulz’s warning that Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras should not sidestep the EU’s policy on sanctions towards Russia. The sources said that “admonitions” are not necessary and that Greece knows what it needs to do.

The same sources state that Greece’s strategic orientation is a given, however it is also within Greece’s right to develop bilateral relations where it is seen fit. Sources have also clarified that Greece has not asked for nor intends to seek Russian economic aid, underlining that the problems within the Eurozone will not be solved via Moscow are directly with the EU bodies.

Tsipras has so far attended the wreath-laying ceremony at the monument for the unknown soldier and is currently attending a working lunch with President Vladimir Putin, to be followed by an agreement-signing ceremony and joint press conference.
