PM A. Tsipras heralds new SYRIZA in party transformation

Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras hopes to prevent objections to tough reforms that had led to the split of his party prior to the September 20 elections

Radical Left Coalition (SYRIZA) Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras has hearalded a strategic transformation of his party following his election win. Addressing his party’s central committee meeting which set out the party’s key priorities ahead of the main congress in February, Tsipras announced the party’s restructuring.

SYRIZA’s leader wants to be certain that he won’t find the arty against him during times when he wants to make difficult reforms. On the contrary, he wants his party’s support when implementing tough reforms that go against the party’s fundamental beliefs prior to the January 25 elections.

In an effort to fortify the leadership, Tsipras gave Giannis Dragasakis, Euclid Tsakalotos and Aristidis Baltas in the party’s political administration. He had also hoped to give Education Minister Nikos Filis a role in the party’s political administration. On his part, Filis cited difficult reforms that need to be made in the education sector that would not allow him to take on such a task.
