PM Samaras: Populism and statism have failed

“A new Metapolitefsi era has begun,” says the Prime Minister

In his statement on the occasion of the 40 years of Metapolitefsi [the period following the end of Greece’s military dictatorship], Prime Minister Antonis Samaras appeared confident that “in the last two years populism and statism duality attempted to hamper Greece’s final exit from the crisis, but they have failed.”

On the occasion of 40 years since the end of Greece’s military dictatorship, the Prime Minister noted in an article in Kathimerini newspaper that Konstantinos Karamanlis tackled the obstacle of populism in a very succesful way.

“Populism fought an ultimate battle to drive Greece out of the Eurozone and to cancel the country’s participation in European integration. It has failed! Populism fought an ultimate battle to prevent the abolition of statism. It has also failed. A new Metapolitefsi era has begun,” said Antonis Samaras.

Meanwhile, referring to the period of Karamanlis’ governance he emphasized that “the roots of democracy that Konstantinos Karamanlis laid down in 1974 proved to be very strong.”
