Poet and artist G. Kakoulidis’ exhibition at Michael Cacoyannis Foundation

He is the recipient of the 1994 International Cavafy Prize

Michael Cacoyannis Foundation presents the works of acclaimed Greek poet, writer and painter George Kakoulidis. The fascinating exhibition has opened on February 9 and it is scheduled to run until Monday, February 23.

Kakoulidis was born in 1956 in an artistic family; he is the son of a painter and a sculptor’s grandson.

He has had 7 solo exhibitions (Agathi-Kartalos Gallery 2001, Gallery Ersi 2003, Booze Cooperativa 2010, Pontoporos Gallery-Paros Island 2010, Ianos 2011, Michael Cacoyannis Foundation 2012, Red House of Chalkis 2013).

He made his literary debut in 1979 with the collection of poems entitled Liberty (based on his sea travels). He has published 14 volumes of poetry (Agra Publications, Kastaniotis Books, Exandas Books, Gavrielides Books), 6 prose books (Kastaniotis Books, Exandas Books, Livani Publishing Organization, Kedros Publishers), including Parthenis’s Syndrom and The Siren of Omonoia Square, the novel The Instant Club, the collection of short stories On Vagabonding, two plays: The King’s Eyes and Balthasar spoke (Patakis Publications, Parousia Books), and the tribute The black limo of Nikos Karouzos.

His poetry was set to music by Thanos Mikroutsikos, Nikos Kypourgos, Stamos Semsis. He had a complete collection of his poetry published by the Hellenic Union of Composers and Songwriters (Poetry 1979-2012). He is the recipient of the 1994 International Cavafy Prize (Alexandria, Egypt).

“This is not just a dream, but a vision” we read in Erotokritos. Vision, angle, view, vista of the world, all that I have seen and rendered pictorially is exhibited here. The result of two years of work. In addition to poetry or in tandem with it, painting helps me get along with people.
