Parliament prez Zoe Konstantopoulou to form new party, reports

She approached SYRIZA MP Manolis Glezos

The president of the Greek Parliament, Zoe Konstantopouolou, is in the final stages of creating her own political party, according to sources.

The party will reportedly collaborate with the recently formed anti-memorandum formation Popular Unity, set up by former SYRIZA minister and MP Panayiotis Lafazanis.

As the pro-left “Efimerida ton Syntakton” reports, Konstantopoulou will not enter into a partnership with Lafazanis Popular Unity party because she does not want to be a deputy under Lafazanis, while she believes that an alliance is more likely to attract smaller anti-memorandum groupings to their political bloc.

According to sources, she is considering approaching historic leftist icon Manolis Glezos to join her party. In a letter sent to Glezos, Konstantopoulou underlines that “…the paths of hope we have tread prove that there are no impasses in democracy, as long as the people are active and their existing representatives are determined not to betray them.”
