Public outcry causes government to withdraw scandalous ‘offshore’ amendment

New amendment to be introduced providing a conflict of interest between holding public office and owning offshore companies

Following public outcry and a barrage of criticism by all political parties against the government for the scandalous ‘off-shore’ amendment included in the omnibus bill, revealed by Proto Thema, the Greek government is retracting the article that would permit politicians to own offshore companies in tax haves across the world.

Under the widespread pressure caused by the revelations of the controversial article, SYRIZA-ANEL government spokesperson Olga Gerovasili announced Tuesday in a press briefing that a new amendment would be immediately legislated providing that parliament deputies and ministers could not own offshore companies while holding public office.
