Public transport employees to join 48-hour general strike

They protest for the social security and tax reform bills that will be voted on over the weekend

There will be disruptions to the Greek public transport network due the participation of the employees of bus, trolleys, metro, tram and suburban railways in the 48-hour strike called by Greece’s major labor unions (GSEE and ADEDY) to protest for the social security and tax reform bills that will be voted on over the weekend.

“The government is attempting to surprise Greek society and vote summarily the social security bill over the weekend, which will give the final blow to welfare system and start a new tax raid,” the public transport unions stated in a joint press release.

Trains and suburban railway are also participating in the three-day strike of private sector employees union GSEE. Employees at busses and trolleys will also hold a work stoppage on Sunday from the start of their shift until 09:00 and from 21:00 until the end of their shift.
