According to a Kremlin adviser the Russian President Vladimir Putin and the German Chancellor Angela Merkel are to meet on Sunday, in the final of the World Cup in Rio.

“We foresee bilateral meetings of the countries leaders that will be present in the final of the World Cup,” said the principal adviser to the Kremlin’s foreign policy Yuri Usakov during a briefing.

“So far, the list of celebrities is not fixed, but I guess that would be Germany and some other countries (…)

The presence of the Russian President in the World Cup final was expected, as Putin will be visiting Brazil anyway from the 13 to 16 of July for a summit of major emerging countries BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa).
The German chancellor and the German President Joachim Gkaouk going will travel to Brazil to support the German team in the final against Argentina, confirmed in a statement by the German Presidency.

The Russian president will participate in the closing ceremony of the World Cup, during which the Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff will pass to the Russian counterpart the baton of organizing the next Cup in 2018.
