The dead pilot of the jet is reported to be loyal to General Khalifa Haftar. He has been identified as Rafa Al-Farani, a fifty-year old who lived in Tobruk with his family. There is currently violence in the area since the toppling of former dictator Muammar Gaddafi in 2011.
