Schaeuble’s temporary Grexit is still considered by Merkel’s CDU

DW interview shows that a temporary Grexit is viewed by the CDU as a desirable solution

The Christian Democratic Union (CDU) ruling party of Germany is critical of Greece again reports Deutsche Welle. German general secretary of CDU’s financial council Wolfgang Steiger lashed out against Athens stating that the government is not sticking to the time chart of reforms.

The reportage states that Greece’s failure to stick to a schedule  does not help the credibility of Greece, according to Steiger who points to a lockdown in discussions. “Greece should not abuse the argument related to the dramatic situation of refugees to drift from the reform rota,”  he said.

The Christian Democrat is one of the CDU members at the core of the ruling party and has huge influence. It is clear that a temporary Grexit, as eyed by Finance Minsiter Wolfgang Schaeuble, is still viewed as a desirable solution for Greece by his German counterparts.
