Search for 12 missing Turkish tourists to continue in Evros

A man called on Friday the European emergency number, claiming he was trapped with 11 of his compatriots in an unknown place

Despite the continued efforts of the search crews, Greek authorities have been unable to locate the 12 Turkish tourists who asked for help on Friday by calling the European emergency number ‘112’.

The call was made by a foreign national who claimed to be Turkish and said that he was trapped with another 11 people in an unknown location, far from any inhabited areas.

The search focused initially on the Pieria Mountains. However, it was called off earlier on Saturday after it was discovered that, due to a reflection of the signal, a mistake had been made in the tracking of the call. The search will now continue in Evros, with the contribution of the police, the fire brigade and local authorities.
