Searching for truth: Google to remove ‘In the news’ from Desktop Search

In response to ‘fake news’ criticism

Google plans to eliminate its ‘In The News’ section from Desktop Search following criticism that it is untruthful.
According to sources, Google will remove the much-criticized section from its platform and replace it with a carousel of “Top stories” similar to what it has on mobile.

This change, which sources say has been planned for quite a while, will take place in a matter of weeks.
Earlier this month, Google came under criticism and scrutiny when one of its top results for “final election count” led to a WordPress blog called “70 News” that falsely claimed Trump had won the popular vote.
It is hoped that the removal of the word “news” will help draw a clearer distinction between Google’s human-vetted Google news product and its main search product.
