Smaller fines for late tax payments

Government examines significant reductions up to 50% in order to collect the fines imposed

The Ministry of Finance considers to reduce the fines imposed and abolish the criminal prosecution for those who have not paid their tax debts.

Officials of General Secretariat of Public Revenue understand that exhaustive fines provided in the Code of Tax Procedures in cases of late payments of taxes has created more problems than those solved.

According to a senior official of the Ministry of Finance, a change in fine calculation is considered. They believe that whenever strict penalties are applied, the government cannot collect the taxes and fines applied, since the taxpayers are not able not only to pay the tax, but also the fine imposed.

Also, according to sources, government considers to significantly reduce the fines applied up to 50% as well as the interest rate.
