A smog-like atmosphere plagued roughly half of Greece on Sunday as strong southerly winds carried dust from North Africa across the Med and over into the Aegean, causing respiratory problems and limited visibility.
Due to strong southerly winds the North African dust spread to most parts of the country. However, gradual and slight weakening of the winds is expected from Sunday afternoon.
As the following map indicates the North African dust covered most parts of the country, especially Crete and Trikala prefecture, central Greece.
