Spiegel: Merkel and Nazi officers on the Acropolis

How Germany is seen by the rest of Europe, according to the popular German magazine

Angela Merkel, wearing bright yellow pants and a green jacket stands out against the stark black and white background of the new Der Spiegel magazine issue.

However, the background is quite familiar, since it shows a picture of Nazi officers on the Acropolis, during the WWII occupation.

Nazis pose in front of the Parthenon and the Der Spiegel editorial team “added” the German chancellor.

The magazine does not equate Merkel with the Nazis, but the title says it all: “How Europeans see the Germans: The German Superpower”.

“The fourth Reich” is also mentioned in the article, while the introduction depicts a graffiti depicting Merkel with an Hitler-stache.
