At least six people were killed, while 378 people were transferred to the hospital

At least six people were killed when a magnitude-6.4 earthquake hit Taiwan Saturday morning, according to Chinese CTI News TV citing statements of Taiwanese Disaster Response Center.

According to the news network, 378 people were transferred to the hospital, while more than 220 people were rescued from residential buildings that collapsed in Tainan. Among the bodies recovered was an infant.

As authorities are still searching for survivors, questions were being raised about the construction of the Wei-guan Golden Dragon Building, with its floors that pancaked down on each other.

One woman told CNN affiliate EBC that rescuers had to cut a hole in order to help her family get out.

“Fortunately we were stuck under a space created by a baby crib and a closet door, so that things won’t fall on us and air was able to get in,” she said from the hospital, where she was receiving treatment for a leg injury. “I was so afraid.”
