SYRIZA convenes for 2nd day without Tsipras

Left platform wanst breakm up of talks with EU

(UPD) The party’s political secretariat announced the Central Committee will meet Thursday to decide when a conference will be called and whether it will a regular or extraordinary one.

SYRIZA’s political secretariat is under way for a second day in a row Tuesday to decide when and how the party’s convention will take place. Greek PM Alexis Tsipras, who was present in yesterday’s meeting will not be absent today.

The atmosphere is expected to be very tense, as the hard core left platform is pressing for an immediate convention of the party’s central committee to decide on the course of the government policies and strategy on the new harsh austerity measures, while the more moderate group backing Tsipras wants the convention to be held either August or September.

The ‘moderates’ believe the deal with the EU partners signed on July 12 at the EU-19 Summit should be honored, while the left platform, led by Panagiotis Lafazanis, wants the talks with EU creditor-partners on the ESM bailout plan to stop.
