SYRIZA leader Tsipras is behind the Chaikalis scandal, PM Samaras says

The deputies will not succumb to this mudslinging campaign, said the PM

Prime Minister Antonis Samaras lashed out against main opposition SYRIZA leader in his message to the Greek people on Sunday, accusing him of being the protagonist in an orgy of unfounded accusations.

Commenting on the recent scandal that broke two days ago, when ANEL MP Pavlos Chaikalis claimed that he was offered millions of euros in order to vote for President of the Republic, the Prime Minister said the following:

“The orgy of unfounded and malicious accusations of alleged MP bribery attempts that are always proven false after having poisoned our democracy cannot go on. The protagonists of this story are unfortunately, the main opposition leader, top members of his party and a leader of a third party who cooperates with SYRIZA.”

“Keep in mind that, only two months ago, Mr.Tsipras made an unbelievable statement: that if any deputy dared to vote for President, it would mean that he/she was bribed! Two days ago, deputies that cooperate with his party had the nerve to say the same thing for the five independent deputies who voted for Stavros Dimas in the first round of the presidential elections,” Mr. Samaras said.

“However, the deputies will not succumb to this mudslinging campaign. Fear and terror will not pass! This is the democracy’s wager today,” the PM concluded.
