SYRIZA-ND first reactions to exit polls showing leftist lead

The exit polls are out, but they’ve been known to be wrong in the past

No sooner did the polls close that the first projected results showed that the bet had paid off for SYRIZA. If the polls are right, SYRIZA is on track to win 30-34% of the votes, winning an overall majority. A combined poll from five television station said that SYRIZA would get around 34% of the vote and New Democracy would be on a range of 28.5 to 32.4%.

SYRIZA supporters were delighted. They got to their feet with sighs of relief and cheered the exit poll. Former finance minister Euclid Tsakalotos told private STAR TV that the exit polls were probably on track this time.

New Democracy aren’t conceding defeat, however, given the fact that the votes have yet to be counted! The range in unofficial polls leaves the door open for a New Democracy Party win.

The winning party will be handed a popular mandate by Greek President Prokopis Pavlopoulos and will have 72 hours to form a coalition government.
