Syros International Film Festival is here to stay

SIFF aims to make film more accessible to the Syros community and to put the island on the map as a destination for film in Greece.

After a succesful first year, the second annual Syros International Film Festival will be held from July 26 – August 1 2014 on the Cycladic island of Syros, Greece, drawing on recent Greek and international films.

According to the festival’s official site, SIFF is committed to showing films underrepresented in mainstream festivals, to promoting Greek and regional film within an international context, and to creating a new space for film in Greece.

The Syros International Film Festival was founded in summer 2012 and first took place in August 2013 on Syros, Greece. Through screenings and workshops, SIFF aims to make film more accessible to the Syros community and to put our island on the map as a destination for film in Greece.

In its second year, SIFF presents debut performances by four feature filmmakers as well as a selection of shorts from the broader Balkan region.

There is also a parallel program featuring screenings of silent films, a retrospective of a famed filmmaker soon to be announced, a series of Greek-French experimental shorts, as well as a two-day masterclass studying the work of Elia Kazan and John Cassavetes.
