Tension brews in Malakasa: Refugees threaten to burn down their tents to warm themselves

In protest against their wretched living conditions

Tension prevailed at Malakasa’s hot spot as refugees gathered to protest their wretched living conditions. Yesterday, they threatened to burn down their tents in order to warm themselves from the bitter cold. They said that the cold is unbearable, and there are dozens of young children among them who can’t cope with such exposure.

Today, the refugees congregated outside the hot spot and have refused to go back inside until a solution is found for their plight. According to the press, Minister of Migration Policy Yiorgos Mouzalas has left 884 migrants at the mercy of the elements, given that the ministry only placed an order for heaters this month.

A short while ago, police promised the desperate migrants that the first shipment of containers would arrive within a week.
The temperature in Malakasa this morning was 5 degrees centigrade.
