After 24 years the remains of St. Valentine are returning to Mytilini and specifically in the Catholic Panagia Theotokou church.

The remains will return to the island, after the completion of the two year rehabilitation work at the church located on the street of Ermou Mytilini, a project that was undertaken by the 14th Byzantine Antiquities (EBA).

The inauguration of the church will be held on the 3rd of August which is also the date that the remains will be transferred to the island. Until 1990 they were kept in Lesvos, and then they were transferred to Athens and Rome by the vicar of the Catholic Church of Mytilini in office back then , the Franciscan monk Torkouato Morini.

Indeed, part of the remains had been placed in the chapel of the Capuchin Order in Victoria Square Athens.

The remains of St. Valentine were originally found in Mytilini in 1907, within the Catholic Church of Panagia (Virgin Mary) and were donated by Lucia Theofanopoulou-Bongigli to the Capuchin monks of the church.
