Tino Sehgal's work to inaugurate NEON Paths program on September 25

All of the artist’s works exist ephemerally and are documented only in the viewer’s memory.

NEON will present an exhibition of works by Tino Sehgal in and around the Roman Agora in Athens from 25 September to 28 October 2014, as part of the NEON Paths program.

The exhibition, produced by Asad Raza, marks the first time a major work of Sehgal’s will be presented outdoors.

Through the Path program, NEON brings exciting contemporary art to a wider audience by putting together free exhibitions in public and private places in Athens and Greece. These exhibitions offer new and powerful experiences to the public through their interaction with urban life.

This exhibition arises from the initiative to mount Sehgal’s works in the ancient sites of Athens and NEON’s ongoing commitment to activating public spaces and enhancing public life throughout the city of Athens. It will take place in the Roman Agora and in an adjacent indoor location and will operate every day for the Agora’s full opening hours and, indoors, into the night. The installations to be shown are constructed of choreography, song, and peripatetic philosophical conversation.

The artist

Tino Sehgal, born 1976, is a British–German artist, based in Berlin. All of Sehgal’s works exist ephemerally and are documented only in the viewer’s memory. The artist himself describes his works as ‘constructed situations’. The materials he uses are the human voice, language, movement, and interaction. Sehgal’s pieces are choreographies that are regularly staged in museums or galleries, and continuously executed by trained individuals he refers to as “interpreters” for the entire duration of a show.
