Tourists vs. Terrorists: How likely are you to die from a terrorist attack? (charts + vid)

Can you spot a terrorist? How likely are you to die from a terrorist attack on your next vay-cay?

The list of dangerous areas around the Mediterranean is growing after the Russian plane crash due to a planted bomb and the multiple attacks in Paris. Travelers are dodging thoughts of vacations, thinking it is better to stay home on familiar territory rather than travel. Even with resorts and luxury hotels being attractive targets, the odds of getting killed by a terrorist when traveling are still quite low.

In fact, scientists of the Global Research foundation in California state that people in the United States are 55 times more likely to get killed by a police officer than a terrorist, while globally the risk of heart disease is 35,079 times higher than a terrorist attack.

In the world 1 in 2,200,000 people die from terrorists attack compared to the 1 in 600,000 people who are struck by lightning.

In the United States, around 35,000 Americans kill themselves each year, so Americans are 2,059 times more likely to commit suicide than die in the hands of a terrorist.

Precautions

The risk of becoming a victim of terrorism is low, but there are things you should be aware of.

Terrorists strike where there are large gatherings of people and mostly in metropolitan areas. They have hit cinema multiplexes, subways and other mass transit systems, bridges and government buildings. It is good to avoid crowds.

Resorts and luxury hotels are always attractive targets with dozens of terror attacks taking place in these resorts worldwide.

* Be wary of suspicious people who look out of place or people wearing too much clothing.
