Tragedy at Knossos site on Crete after freak lightning accident (photos)

Lightning struck after tourists scrambled for cover under a pine tree

A freak accident took place at the archeological site of Knossos, Crete, when a group of Russian tourists tried to protect themselves from the rain under a pine tree.

Lightning struck the tree resulting in a number of injuries as tourists were transferred to the hospital. A pregnant woman, aged 46, was rushed to hospital after she fell unconscious.

Three doctors and rescuers at the site managed to resuscitate her and transfer her in a critical condition to the hospital.

Four people lost consciousness, and a total of six people were transfered to hospital by ambulance. Thankfully there were no deaths.
