Tsipras-Juncker telephone call to find eleventh-hour soln

A last-minute solution is being sought for Greece

Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras had telephone contact with European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker in an effort to find a mutually viable compromise solution to the Greek problem by Tuesday night. Sources state that Tsipras has made a proposal that would be of mutual benefit to both sides and that would solve the country’s credit problems.

The same sources state that the Greek prime minister will seek meetings with German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Francois Hollande over the coming hours.

Meanwhile, Minister of State Alekos Flambouraris told the Athens newsagency that Greece’s EU partners should stop the propaganda and no longer repeat the same proposals wrapped up as new ones. He pointed out that the solution for Greece should include:

– No reduction to salaries and pensions
– Reinstitution of collective negotiations and the minimum wage
– Additional development package, in addition to the new NSRF
– Restructuring with debt haircut

“Only this way can the Greek people breathe, the economy restart, the productive reconstruction begin. Only so our dignity will be restored,” he said.
