Firebombs thrown at Turkish consulate bldg. in Thessaloniki

Protest against high-security prisons went awry

The Turkish Consulate General building in Thessaloniki was struck by firebombs during a Friday demonstration against high security prisons in Greece, according to the Anadolu Agency. At least two people were injured and a police car also caught fire during the attack. A police sentry booth in front of the Turkish consulate was attacked at least nine times in the past.

Self-styled anarchists and “anti-state” militants have taken to the streets to demand an abolition to maximum security prisons in the country, a measure that would benefit several of their “fellow travelers” being held in jail currently.
