More than 3,000 Turks flooded Thessaloniki for the 76th anniversary since the death of Turkish leader Mustafa Kemal Ataturk at the age of 57 on November 10, 1938. They gathered outside the house where he was born in 1881 n 24 Apostolou Pavlou Street, next to the Turkish Consulate. The house today operates at the “Ataturk Museum” and draws a number of visitors from the neighboring country interested in paying a pilgrimage to the man that is adored in modern-day Turkey.

A commemoration of his death began at 1.30 p.m. followed by a tour of the museum. Turkish media reports that a large number of students from Turkish schools were among those that visited the cit. Many of the Turkish visitors had spent the weekend in Thessaloniki giving the city’s tourism a boost.
