UN to Saudi Arabia: “Forgiveness instead of 1,000 lashes to the blogger”

UN High Commissioner of Human Rights urges the King of Saudi Arabia “to use his power to stop the public lashings”

The UN High Commissioner of Human Rights urged the King of Saudi Arabia to “forgive” the blogger that was sentenced to 10 years in prison and who is being punished with 100 lashes for “disrespecting Islam” on Thursday.

The 31-year-old blogger, a member of Free Saudi Liberals, was sentenced last year to 10 years in prison, fined 230,000 euros and is being punished with 1,000 lashes in the space of 20 weeks.

Last week he already received a part of the punishment and he has another 50 lashes on Friday, which is why the UN High Commissioner rushed to make his appeal.
